Curriculum

SeNgoda is a Christian school. This religious foundation is central to the school’s ethos.

However, this is very much seen in terms of the wide variety of religious beliefs present in the school and in the wider world.

SeNgoda Learning Structure

Classes

The curriculum is designed to fulfil the requirements of modern and futuristic educational tenets being Science, Technology, Enterprise, Entrepreneurship, Religion [STEER].

We service mixed ability classes. We work from the premise that “every child can” attain a pass at middle school when the school correctly manages the learner’s character, attitude, and ambition. We do that very well here.

Each lesson has a minimum of 30 minutes. The teachers ensure that the lessons are structured in such a way that there is time for written and marked classwork. Teachers keep house superintendents informed of children’s progress.

Classes have a capacity for 20 learners. Children are taught in small groups, in pairs or individually, according to the degree and nature of their specific need.  Learners are given homework daily after lessons in each subject taught per day. Weekly written feedback on all material taught is mandatory.

Tuition

All children who join the school have to attempt our ‘placement test’. The result of the test is an indicator of background learning sufficiency or learning deficiency.  The result of the test enables us to make the right interventions for successful learning.

Further and in addition, any child who comes to the school with a history of special educational need undergoes a preliminary assessment to identify the areas in which the child requires support and to assess whether such support will be provided by the school under its duty to make reasonable adjustments to prevent disabled pupils being put at a substantial disadvantage. A ‘Preliminary Assessment’ can be arranged for any child about whom there are academic concerns during his time at the school. Any assessment requiring highly specialised diagnostics are undertaken at the parents’ expense.

If adjustments need to be put in place, they will be discussed with the child’s parents and [medical] advisers, including any reasonable adjustments that will be made by the school. The key vehicle for enabling is the Voluntary Improvement Program [VIP].

Progress Reports

We value learners’ feedback to both the school and the parents. We push our learners to appreciate accountability. Parents receive two learner performance reports per term – mid-term and end of term.

There are 2 formative assessment points per term called Deep Tests (internal examinations) that take place at around the halfway point of the school term and at the end of the term. A learner whose personal performance is unsatisfactory as measured against his personal best performance [PBP] in a subject, can be referred to the Voluntary Improvement Program [VIP].

This is a learning support unit that can be accessed at any point by a learner.

The VIP Program

The VIP program is open to all learners who wish to enhance their academic performance. The programme undertakes to assist learners by providing guided study, homework coverage The programme undertakes to assist learners by providing guided study, homework coverage and revision. Subject teachers have to ensure that these learners are adequately resourced for performance enhancement through customised tests.  A learner may elect or be persuaded to register for the VIP on the basis of tutor or self-evaluation. This VIP is effective for a 28 days’ period and is subject to renewal or extension by mutual consent.
